Doors guitarist Robby Krieger is among the artists scheduled to perform at WeedCon Wonderland, a two-day conference for cannabis industry professionals taking place today and tomorrow in Hollywood, California.
The event, which seeks to promote education about the medicinal benefits of cannabis, also will feature members of the cannabis business community showing off their products.
As Krieger told the media at a recent event in Anaheim, California, "WeedCon is a festival where they have all the marijuana dealers that get together and they show off their wares." He added with a chuckle, "And hopefully we'll get some free samples."
Krieger will be performing today at the conference with his new side project, The New Experience, which he described as a "kind of jazz thing."
Robby said the group does material by such jazz greats as trumpet player Freddie Hubbard and saxophonist John Coltrane. "It's just fun stuff that I don't usually get to play," he added. The New Experience also features keyboardist Ed Roth, bassist Kevin Brandon and drummer Dale Alexander, the latter of whom Krieger pointed out "played with me for years after The Doors."
Also performing at WeedCon today will be Little Feat's Fred Tackett, who will play with his side group Silver Strings, while rapper/singer Wyclef Jean will be part of the January 23 performance lineup.
As previously reported, David Crosby will be on hand to serve as a celebrity judge for the 2020 WeedCon Buyers Cup awards, which will be handed out January 23. The awards honor excellence in various cannabis-related products. Crosby will be joined on the judging panel by actor/musician Dennis Quaid and various cannabis industry professionals and dispensary buyers.
